I have move from blog services to blog services (MSN Spaces, Xanga, Blogger, FC2 etc), also tried setting up on my personal web hosting space: here. However, I found that there aren't any perfect solutions or anything even close to that.
MSN Spaces
Pros: Shown next to your contact on your friends' contact list and synchronized frequently.
Cons: Lack of uploadable templates.
Xanga
Pros: Used by friends in my home country.
Cons: I was just scared away by my friends' ugliness of template customizations.
Blogger
Pros: Linked by Google Account. Nice GUI.
Cons: Lack of uploadable templates.
FC2
Pros: Japanese blog services, appearance is the best.
Cons: Lack of uploadable templates.
During setting up blogs on my personal web hosting space, I also tried more than one packages:
Wordpress
Pros: Simply blogging, nothing much else. You need to host photos on another packages on the web hosting like Gallery. Tons of free templates on the Internet.
Cons: You got the feeling of more customization all the time if you are perfectionist.
Joomla, Mambo, and all other CMS (Content Management System) and Forum packages
Pros: You could integrate many other modules such as forum, news feeds, links list, file download, wiki, etc.
Cons: Sometimes might be an overkill for excessive choices.
... to be continued.
