Received the Wacom Intuos3 PTZ-930 A4 tablet last night. My brother picked that up from the Asspost. *Asspost = Asshole Post Office. If you experienced their services you will name them so.
Didn't have much chance to try out this beauty. I was suprised by its large size even I have checked out the dimension on the Internet. The drawable area is slightly larger than a A4 paper and it comes with a high resolution mouse besides the stylus and pad. The mouse is using electromagnetic force from the tablet pad so it doesn't need any electricity or batteries when it's on the pad.
Obviously it just works without much settings on Windows after installing the drivers. Couldn't get it operates on Linux (Fedora 8) and couldn't test on claimed supported Ubuntu Studio 8.04 because I was still downloading then.
After the installation of Ubuntu Studio, I immediately get my hands dirty on setting up Intuos3. The wacom tools and kernel module had been installed by default. However, nothing works even its included mouse not even been detected as a generic USB mouse.
Jumped on the Ubuntu forum and Google and got the configulation steps. It's just some simple copy-and-paste to the xorg.conf and restart the X. The pen and pressure function then alright on GIMP. Also tried the SAI 1.0.1 and ArtRage 2.5 Starter Edition but the pressure was not usable yet. Someone mentioned that due to the laptop touchpad conflicts but I commented such line as they suggested and no luck.
So play a bit by painting the above Apple. It's surprisingly that as the high resolution and pressure levels, my writing is sort of highly reproduced on the screen. Will try out more later on and resume the watching of Dejie no Bunpou TV programme. FYI, such TV programme is about how to paint like CG Experts in Japan by their realtime presentation in front of the cameras. It is quite impressive when I could absorb their skills at that close.
