I couldn't denied that my reading speed on contract clauses are now improved. Also, I improved my skills in writing formal notice letter, after checking out some expensive lawyer works. The lawyer's letter refreshed my memory of reading reply from my good friend's mother about the residence arrangement 6 years ago. She was working in a Law Firm with English level that could let the alphabets of my writings all runaway with embarrassment. :)
Negotiation is an art: you need to put another side at a lower position with telling them how bad is their consequences if they are not following what you proposed, but at the same time hide what you are truly holding inside your pocket.
IMHO, there are 3 attack points when dealing with public organizations:
- The terms and conditions on the contact you both signed.
- The authority which provide them the license or qualification for their operations.
- The power of mass media which could affect their reputation.
For most professional industry, there will be some authorities that regulate them. There are government departments, ombudsmen, and industry associations allow consumers to fulfil their rights. Ombudsmen are preferred because industry associations might sometimes stand at the business side and the quality of government departments are very diverse. My previous experience of government here is generally negative by their bureaucracy. It made me not trusting them enough when I called them at 4pm and found them off work.
The third point is easier, you just need to write the story out and spam the newspapers, TV programmes of current affairs, radios, etc. Even print out and stick on street and email to your friends and relatives and ask them spread.
Before doing this, write a letter to the business and list out all the contact details of the media you are going to inform. Then state clearly what you demand and let them know that the conflict will be resolved by meeting such demands. I got my ridiculous service charges waived in two events.
There will be another new battlefield soon, after I read the 'contract' and related education institution regulation acts.
We need to fight. It's not because of violent blood in our body, but someone likes taking advantages from you if you don't show them they chose the wrong one.
